What is Database Schema?

What is a Database Schema?
A database schema is a way to logically group objects such as tables, views, stored procedures, functions etc. A schema is like a container of objects. We can assign user log in permissions to a single schema so that the user can only access the objects they are authorized to access.
In a database, A Schema can be created and modified, and users can be granted access to a schema. A schema can be owned by any user and It is possible to transfer schema ownership.
How to create a Database Schema?
The steps to create a database schema in SQL Server 2008 R2 is given bellow:
  • Navigate to Security > Schemas
  • Right click on Schemas and select New Schema
  • Complete the details in the General tab for the new schema
  • Add users to the schema as required and set their permissions
The database schema is an important feature of any relational database. Schema creation process  may differ in various database system. But its functionalities are same.
